Win the Portrait Password Cup. |
10G |
|
Discover the password for every shortcut portrait in Hogwarts.
Guide The portraits referred to are the ones that you can speak with. Each of them has a twin portrait, and walking through one is bascially a shortcut to the area in which the other are. To discover them, you must talk to one of them, and solve a riddle/task to open the shortcut. Once you've done that with all of the portraits, the achievement will unlock.
Fat Lady portrait (Grand Staircase - Gryffindor Room) This portrait leads to the Gryffindor Room, and is required by story line. The portrait will ask you for a password that all Gryffindors should know. Luckily, you don't have to go far to find someone who can tell you the password, as there should be one standing right next to you on the steps. Simply ask him for the password, and then say it to the portrait.
Ravenclaw portrait (Grand Staircase - Second floor) To befriend this portrait you will have to find out where Rowena Ravenclaw comes from. To do that, all you will have to do is talk to any Ravenclaw student. Once you got the answer, simply return to the portrait.
Hufflepuff portrait (Grand Staircase - Transfiguration Courtyard) You must be a friend of the Hufflepuffs in order to open this portrait's secret passage. In order to open it, simply find, and talk to, a Hufflepuff student who in turn will remember that you've already helped out Cederic Diggory. Then return to the portrait, and talk to it.
The Riddler portrait (Grand Staircase - Boathouse) This guy's portrait password hunt is actually quite annoying. You will be given a clue, and you must find out what the clue means, and then go seek it out. For example, when you are asked to locate a portrait, you are unable to use it (each time you talk to it, it will just tell you the next "clue") until you have found the next clue. This is a pain, because the quest foottrail usually leads through the portraits, even though you are unable to use them. I usually just finish this portrait up as fast as possible. Anyway, here's how to open the secret passage: 1. You will be asked to seek out the Man With Faces Three. This is the schizofrenic portrait on the seventh floor, in the area where the Room of Requirements is. 2. The portrait will send you to another portrait, which is the Ravenclawn portrait in the Grand Staircase. 3. Once again you will be directed to a portrait, only this time it is not a "special" portrait with a secret passage, this is just a regular portrait (if a regular portrait is a talking one :-p) of a sherpedess located on the Second Floor. The easiest way to describe where she is would be to say that she's is on the wall on the last landing of the staircase leading to Herbology. 4. She in turn will direct you to the portrait hanging on the bottom floor in the Viaduct Entrance, so go there and talk to him to be sent to yet another portrait. 5. The portrait you must find now is actually the Hufflepuff portrait, which is in the Grand Staircase. Talk to him, and you will finally be given the password. Return to the riddler portrait to end this nonsense.
Hungry portrait (Grand Staircase - Clock Tower) This portrait is the one who complains about being hungry. You must help her get some food, and in order to do that, you must go to the Hufflepuff portrait and talk to him. Once you've done that, go back to this portrait and she'll let you through.
Astronomer portrait (Grand Staircase - Seventh Floor) This portrait is at the very bottom of the staircase, and in order to obtain it's password you must first talk to Hannah Abbott, who is standing nearby. There is no specific task you must do for this portrait, he will simply reveal his password.
Forgetful portrait (Third Floor - Second Floor) This is the portrait of a rather old man with a black robe, who, when spoken to, tells you that he do not remember his password, because he has not heard it for 50 years. You need to find the password, and to do that, you must seek out Myrtle in her bathroom.
Secretive portrait (Viaduct Entrance - First Floor) This portrait is at the bottom of the stairs of the Viaduct Entrance. When you talk to him, he will agree to tell you the password on one condition - he will only tell you it. You will have to clear out the area before he'll reveal the password, and in order to do that, you must scare the students by pointing your wand at them. Once they're gone, talk to the portrait again to get his password.
News portrait (Library - Fourth Floor) This is the slightly weird looking portrait located in the Library, which asks for the headline of the Daily Prophet. To obtain it, simply go to the Great Hall, cast Wingardium Leviosa (you might have to cast Depulso on it first, I'm not 100% sure.) An owl will fly down from the roof with and drop a news paper on one of the tables. Read it, then go back to the portrait and tell him the headline.
Frightened portrait - (Herbology Corridor - Fifth Floor) This portrait is tired of being eyeballed (:-p) by the portrait hanging on the opposite wall. What you will have to do is cover up the eye portrait, and to do that, you must cast Reparo on the statues on both sides of it.
Schizofrenic portrait (Seventh Floor - Fourth Floor) This portrait asks you to find himself, which means his other portrait (this guy is a nutcase!) You must find his counterpart on the fourth floor covered behind some cobwebs, and in order to reveal it you must have taught the spell Incendio. If you have, use it to burn away the cobwebs
Slytherin portrait - (Dungeons - Dungeon Corridor) This is not possible to do before you've obtained the invisible cloak. You must first talk to the portrait, who in turn will sarcastically tell you that you must ask a Gryffindor student for the password. Go to the Gryffindor Common Room and get the invisible cloak from a chest on the second floor. Now return to the area of the portrait where a couple of Slytherin students uses the portrait and reveals the password. Return without the invisible cloak and tell your newly acquired password to the hag.

Severius Snape (Dungeon) Snape is just infront of the round staircase that leads up from the Dungeon. The book you will need for writing is located in the Library, in the Restricted Section. You can locate it on the left hand side, in the second from last row.

Win the Golden Gobstone Cup. |
20G |
|
Beat all Gobstones champions.
Guide Gobstone is a type of game where you knock a marble within a large circle which makes out the arena of the game. It's an extremely slow and annoying game, but once you get the hang of it, it gets easier. There are 4 champions you have to beat, located in the different courtyards:
1. Entrance Courtyard - Traditional champion 2. Clock Tower Courtyard - Jack Stone champion 3. Paved Courtyard - Snake Pit champion 4. Paved Courtyard - Hogwarts champion (you need to beat the three other champions to play her, and to win, you'll have to beat her in all three gametypes.)
Traditional Gobstone At the start of a game of the traditional gobstone game, a group of marbles will be lined in a circle in the middle of the arena, and the objective is to shoot as many stones out of the arena as possible. Both players take turns of shooting the marbles out, and if you shoot your own marble out, you lose a point. When facing the Hogwarts champion you are supposed to be the one who breaks the circle of marbles, and trust me, the champion basically never misses a shot. It took me ages to beat her in traditional gobstone, but I found a technique that at least gives you the edge. When you start the game, instead of breaking the circle, simply shoot your marble out of the arena. This will make the champion have to break the circle, and you can start concentrating on getting the marbles out. If you can hit each marble, you will win.
Jack Stone Gobstone The objective here is to finish the game as close to the jack stone, which is in the middle of the arena, as possible. This might sound hard, but it really isn't, because you can sabotage the game for the computer. Each time the computer gets closer to the jack stone, all you have to do is aim your marble at the computer's and shoot it away.
Snake Pit Gobstone Similar to Jack Stone Gobstone, but now it will be a hole in the middle of the arena instead. Also really simple, just do the same as what you did in Jack Stone Gobstone.

Finish on hardest difficulty |
100G |
|
Finish the story on the hardest difficulty.
Guide This sounds pretty simple, yeah? Just play the game once on Hard. But really, it isn't. Not because the game gets superhard on Hard, but the achievement is gllliiitttcccheeedddd. I played through the game three times before I could get the achievement. To read more about the bug, check this thread Other than that, what can I say? I would recommend that you do not go for the full 1000 on Hard, because of the bug. Rather do all the achievements on the easier difficulties, then go for Hard in one sitting. The achievement should unlock just as you return to Hogwarts after beating Voldemort.
